Making the most from your makeup products is a lot like becoming an artist. In order to begin, you need to take care of the “canvas” - your skin. Not everyone can have that traditionally beautiful peaches and cream skin tone, but we can make the best of what we have, keeping in mind these three significant words: clean, tone and moisturize.
That’s right, achieving a perfect look with cosmetics product is a lot like creating a work of art. With a little knowledge of a few makeup basics, you can create a beautiful face.
After you figure out your skin type, you can select the group of facial care products that are best for you. Ordinary facial cleansers, toners and moisturizers work well with normal skin. A Very dry skin needs a regimen with skin care items that are rich in moisturizing emollients to restore and ensure moisture. Oily skin requires water-based products that won’t add more oil. People with combination skin types, - oily in some places, dry in others - should cleanse with typical products, but should take special care to apply astringent and moisturizer to the dry or acne-prone areas.
Regardless of what your skin type, makeup starts with a good foundation that conceals those little imperfections without looking “made up.” In order to get flawless-looking skin, pick a foundation type that coordinates with your skin type, such as dry, oil, normal or combination. There are also base foundation types for women who have allergies and those with acne or other skin problems. Once again, it’s very important to take good care of your skin underneath your makeup products.
A great base foundation is a must, regardless of the type of skin. The best foundation is one that will mask flaws and lighten skin without a heavy, thick and cakey look. Women with dry skin look better with a creamy base makeup that’ll add extra moisture. Ladies with oily skin look best in water-based liquid foundations. Those with normal or combination skin types have the luxury of playing around with different products to see what type of base foundation works the best.
Once you’ve figured out your foundation, the real party begins. So many makeup shades, and only one face! The answer to this issue is to give yourself more than one look. Some women like to create a regular look based on the main shades in their wardrobe. Others like to experiment as looks change throughout the seasons.
Many guys like to make fun of us about our cosmetics, calling it “war paint” (remember Mel Gibson and those brave Scottish soldiers in the movie “Braveheart”?). Well, in some ways, the guys are right: a girl whose cosmetics helps her look good not only looks great, she feels confident and strong, able to handle anything life may throw at her. (And p.s., have you seen how many more professional guys are getting facials nowadays?)
But don’t stop with only one solitary face! Since night lighting can wash out your face, go for the dramatic finish with your night time makeup. Do you have great lips? Then emphasize them by wearing a brighter red, moist lip color and hold back on your other make up products so that your lips stand out. Are your eyes your best feature? Then choose more dramatic colors that will make them grab the attention of everyone who glances at you.
